  2. Prof. Chary, President requested the Secretary to present the report. Prof. Bhat, Secretary shared the following with the members:

    • The present strength of the IBS membership has grown to 830 members.
    • The entire Life member's directory has been updated.
    • IBS website: www.indianbiophysicalsociety.org has also been updated.
    • Requested members that the missing information regarding e-mail IDs and change of addresses, if any, may please be informed to Mr. Jayesh Malkan by e.mail.
    • The minutes of the meetings of EC and GB held during IBS -2010 and 2011 have been uploaded on the net and those of 2012 shall be uploaded soon.
    • Prof. J. C. Bose and Prof. G. N. Ramachandran travel awards were awarded last year to two IBS members to attend the IUPAB Congress in Biophysics held at Beijing.
  3. It was pointed out that IBS may explore the possibility of more travel awards to allow members attend other Biophysics meetings like ABA and US Biophysical Society meetings. While the suggestion was appreciated, it was opined that IBS may sponsor only such Society meetings which have affiliations with IBS like IUPAB and ABA. Also, Prof. Saran mentioned that the two travel awards sponsored by IBS have been accepted only for participation in IUPAB meetings as the corpus for these was generated from the 1999 IUPAB Congress held in Delhi. However, other members suggested that in case IBS has sufficient interest money in the overall savings, additional travel awards could be explored. EC Members agreed to look into the suggestion.
  4. Prof. Sudipta Maity suggested that it is about time that IBS have regional Chapters so that in addition to the Annual meetings one could have discussion forums and small regional meetings. It was agreed to explore the possibility of providing modest funding for such activities for upto 4 Chapters.
  5. Prof. Jagannathan mentioned that there have been savings from organizing the 7th ABA meeting in Delhi and the same could be transferred to IBS for its further use. This was also shared earlier with all the members of the IBS by its President during his address in the inaugural function of the ongoing symposium and annual meeting.
  6. Dr. Sankaranarayan informed that as suggested earlier IBS should provide about 10 fellowships for college/University teachers for travel by AC-3 tier to attend the Annual IBS symposia. It was agreed that one should explore the possibility of providing 10 such travel fellowships of upto Rs 4000 by AC- 3 tier travel.
  7. Regarding the next year's Annual Symposium and IBS meeting it was mentioned that as agreed last year it should be held at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kolkata. Prof. Basak mentioned that it will be organized by Dr. Dhananjay Bhattacharya as convener with the support from himself and Prof. Ansuman Lahiri of Calcutta University. He suggested that IBS should send a formal letter to Dr. Dhananjay Bhattacharya in this regard. Prof. Basak also requested the EC members to suggest the possible names for the GNR Memorial lecture for the forthcoming IBS Symposium.
  8. Prof. Sanyal suggested that IBS could have its Annual Symposium in Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2015. Prof. Anil Saran informed that he has been requested by Raipur University to inform the EC of IBS that they will be happy to host the 2016 IBS Symposium in Raipur. The members took a note of the proposals and mentioned that the future venues would be finalized in the IBS meeting of 2014.
  9. Prof. Chary mentioned that due to problems being faced in making payment for the GNR lecture at times, it is best to commit funds for the same in advance and the convener be asked to set the funds aside for the purpose. It was, hence, suggested that IBS may contribute up to Rs 50,000/- for the GNR lecture instead of Rs. 25,000/- considering the increase in the international travel expenses. The members agreed this upon.
  10. Prof. Basak presented the audit report before the EC members, which was accepted. The same would be tabled in the GB meting for its approval.
  11. Prof. Basak mentioned that for the operation of the IBS account in Kolkata, signatures of Dr. M. Maiti and Dr. Ashok Thakur are required along with that of his, which is causing lots of inconvenience as Dr. Maiti has retired. He suggested that IBS could have the new treasurer Dr. Dhananjay Bhattacharya as the signatory along with himself and Dr. Ansuman Lahiri. This was agreed upon by the EC.
  12. Prof. Chary mentioned that there was need to reconstitute the EC as his term as President and that of some other members was going to be over w.e.f. 1-4-2013. He suggested the name of Prof. T. P. Singh, AIIMS for the same, which was accepted by the EC members. Also, he mentioned that Prof. P. C. Mishra, Prof. S. N. Sanyal and Prof. Faizan Ahmad, Vice Presidents of IBS shall be completing 4 yrs term and need to be replaced. Prof. Soumen Basak had also requested last year that he be replaced and had suggested the name of Dr. Dhananjay Bhattacharya as the new treasurer. Also Dr. G. Suresh Kumar, Dr. S. Maiti, and Prof. S. Aravamudhan would compete 4 yrs as members of EC.

After discussion with the EC members, it was suggested that IBS could have Prof. G. Krishnamoorthy of TIFR, Mumbai, Prof. Lallan Mishra of BHU and Prof. P. M. Dongre of Mumbai Univ. as Vice- Presidents, while Dr. Yogendra Sharma of CCMB and Prof. Ansuman Lahiri of Calcutta University would be new members. It was also suggested that Prof. Rajiv Bhat might continue as secretary. The reconstituted EC, which will be effective from 1-4-2013 was accepted by the EC members.

  13. President and the EC members once again thanked Prof. Hosur and Prof. Dongre and their organizing team for making all the arrangements for holding the IBS-2012 successfully.
